Preparing for School at Aspire Pakenham's Kinder Program

Posted July 19th 2024

Kindergarten is crucial to children’s successful transition into school. Aspire’s funded 4-year-old Kindergarten program "Step into Prep'', is designed to continue to support the development of your child’s social and emotional intelligence in a safe and secure environment. Our programs are designed to be inclusive of all stages of development and work closely with families to ensure children meet their full potential.

Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten Pakenham offers a comprehensive kindergarten program that incorporate different learning opportunities, excursions, incursions, and activities to enhance the children’s learning and interests. Discover more about some of the recent activities and programs that Pakenham’s 4-year-old kinder children have been participating in!

Learning and Real-World Experiences

Practicing real-world scenarios can help children learn new things by giving them hands-on experiences. Recently, our 4-year-old children dove into Pakenham’s newly set up hospital corner, extending their interests and deepening their connection to the real world. They learned about hospital functions, built friendships, improved language skills, and enhanced fine motor skills—all while having a fantastic time together! Through playful learning, they explored the parts of the body and discovered how each one works.

Storytime and Exploration

Reading and role-playing are frequent activities in our Pakenham curriculum. Recently, children in Woodland Kinder room explored the beloved book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. As they read, the children got to "feed" the caterpillar, learning about the days of the week, counting, nutrition, and the life cycle of a butterfly.

In another thrilling activity, Woodland Kinder children also engaged in a Bear Hunt story setup, crafting their adventure with natural and recyclable resources. They enjoyed a sensory experience while exploring our book of the month, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, bringing the story to life in a magical way!

Reconciliation Activities

At Aspire Pakenham, we also like to pay importance to different awareness days throughout the year. For Reconciliation Week, the 4-year-old kinder children were engaged in numerous activities related to Aboriginal culture in line with Reconciliation Week 2024. They painted gumtree leaves, created dot paintings of the alphabet, read books on Aboriginal culture, and participated in play dough activities. They were excited to learn about unique Aboriginal colors and their meanings, providing a fantastic opportunity to educate our children about our culture.

Healthy Eating Fun

Nutrition and learning about healthy eating are also an important part of Aspire Pakenham’s curriculum. Recently the Kinder children participated in a sorting activity mat to learn about healthy and unhealthy foods! By sorting healthy foods into the 'happy face' and unhealthy foods in the 'sad face' columns, children gained a clear understanding of what foods they should be eating most, and other foods they should be eating in moderation.  This helps kids grasp the importance of good nutrition, which is valuable knowledge to have as they transition into school.

Preparing for School and Beyond

Our kinder programs are designed to prepare children for school and beyond, fostering a love for learning and exploration that will serve them well throughout their educational journey. These activities and learning experiences help children expand their knowledge, as well as develop their social skills, emotional intelligence and confidence in their abilities.

We also offer regular incursion programs and excursions for the Kinder children that strengthen their skills and allow them to explore their local community. Our regular incursion programs Little Sports Heroes, Yoga with Abby and SketchRoo, all help to enrich their learning journey.
