Celebrating our Culture at Aspire Wollert

Celebrating our Culture at Aspire Wollert

Having the opportunity to celebrate a range of different cultures at Aspire Wollert is a way we have cultivated togetherness. With the autumnal celebrations of Holi, Easter and Eid, there were colours, chocolate and food galore! Find out more about celebrating our culture through these fun festivities at Aspire Wollert below.

Celebrating our Culture during Holi

Aspire Wollert celebrated the colourful festival of Holi! A Hindu celebration of spring, colour, light and love, this day is a favourite amongst many. It also commemorates the triumph of love over evil as it honours the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha over Hiranyakashipu. The children and educators alike had a colourful time as they spread powdered dye over each other. Holi dyes all have a different symbolic meaning depending on the colour, but overall represent the colours of spring, the season the event is held in the northern hemisphere. The educators at Aspire Wollert even made their own coloured dye from cornstarch for the occasion!

It's a great opportunity to teach the children about colours, as well as cultures that are different from their own. Check out some of the bright fun we had below!

Easter Fun at Wollert

Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten Wollert also celebrated Easter! Easter is a Christian celebration and cultural event which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We saw that last month some special guests visited the centre as part of the festivities. The Easter Bunny and Alice from Alice in Wonderland bounced into the centre for an exciting visit. The children had a great time interacting with our guests! The Easter Rabbit loved jumping around and creating mischief around the centre. We are sure the children will remember the fun they had for a long time.

An Eid Extravaganza

The next week the centre was full of laughter, food and fun to celebrate Eid al-Fitr! Eid is the Muslim celebration marking the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan. It is the festival of the “breaking of the fast” and occurs the fay after the new moon is seen at the end of Ramadan. It is one of the two main festivals of Islam, along with Eid al-Adha.

Our centre chef prepared some beautiful meals for the children and their families. We celebrated with a massive feast! It’s safe to say there wasn’t an empty belly in the building. Families were also encouraged to take home food for them to have during their Eid al-Fitr festivities.

It's crucial for preschool-aged children to learn about cultural festivals like Holi, Easter, and Eid. This is because it fosters inclusivity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the diverse world around them. These celebrations offer opportunities for children to learn about different traditions, values, and beliefs, promoting respect and tolerance for cultural diversity from an early age. By introducing children to these festivals, educators and parents not only enrich their cultural knowledge but also encourage curiosity and open-mindedness, laying a foundation for embracing diversity throughout their lives. Furthermore, learning about these festivals can instil a sense of joy and excitement as children participate in celebrating our culture. This promotes a sense of belonging and community among them.
