World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging action for the protection of our planet. This year, Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten centres took an active role in the festivities, engaging children in various initiatives. The childcare centres organised a series of educational activities, including planting native plants, recycled art activities, and nature walks. Undertaking these activities aims to instil a sense of environmental stewardship in our children, as well as teaching them about their world.
Let’s hear from some of our centres and see what fun initiatives they explored!
During World Environment Day, our Rockpools children (0-12 months) got to explore natural materials with a full tray of grass, rock, leaves and plants. Sensory play benefits children’s curiosity while exploring different textures, which is especially important for infants. We love to expose our Nursery Hub children to all sorts of new experiences at Aspire Cranbourne West.
For World Environment Day, our children dove into a painting activity and shared their ideas on how to save our planet. Their voices and creative artworks are now proudly displayed, showcasing their commitment to environmental stewardship! Our kinder children at Aspire Pakenham are passionate about the environment, and love to play outside.
On a sunny mid-morning, the children from Gumnuts participated in a nature walk, actively engaging with their environment. They explored various types of flowers, observed the vibrant colours of autumn leaves, and collected a range of natural materials. After the walk, the children used these materials to create collages, allowing them to express their creativity.
This activity encouraged the children to observe and appreciate nature, providing them with fresh air and promoting overall physical well-being. Engaging with the natural environment stimulated their senses through different sights, sounds, and textures, fostering a deeper connection with their surroundings.
Room 3 children enjoyed a hands-on gardening experience in the Nursery hub yard, learning about plants and nature while getting their hands dirty. They loved spending time outside.
Experiences like this help children to develop fine motor skills and foster a sense of responsibility for their environment!
The Kookaburra children participated in a group discussion on how to keep our earth safe. We then made some grass heads by placing grass seeds into a stocking using the plastic cup. We also placed some soil on top. The children created some faces on their grass heads by making a nose, sticking some googly eyes and painted their cup. Then they used the spray bottle to water their grass heads, and are really excited to see their grass heads grow and to start looking after them.
Stay tuned for the Kookaburras progress in looking after their grass heads on their Facebook page.
Children at Kalkallo and Beveridge centres have been learning about plant life cycles, and how to look after plants!
Throughout the week at Aspire Beveridge, our children participate in watering the indoor plants in the centre. From learning about growth to fostering healthy habits, gardening is a hands-on life lesson.
Kalkallo’s kinder children have been learning all about plants! As part of our 4-Year-Old Kindergarten program, we have been learning about a plant’s life cycle. Last week the children each took turns planting some seeds and have been watering the seeds each day. We can’t wait to watch them sprout and grow 🌱
Through hands-on experiences and creative projects, Aspire's commitment to sustainability is clear. Through this, we make a significant impact on the community and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment among the children.
