SeeMore Safety Program at Aspire Thornhill Village

At Aspire Thornhill Village, we’ve been exploring something really important with our kindergarten children: Staying safe in everyday situations. We talk about safety at school, at home and in the garden. What started as a one-off incursion this project has now evolved into an ongoing learning program at our centre. This project empowers children to assess risks and recognise safe and unsafe behaviours. It helps them make thoughtful decisions to protect themselves and others.
Because developing these skills early helps children build independence, responsibility and the ability to make safe, thoughtful choices. It gives them the confidence to speak up, assess situations and trust their instincts. Learning about safety in a supportive environment helps children feel empowered (and not fearful!) so they can navigate the world around them with resilience and awareness. These early lessons lay the foundation for lifelong habits, helping children grow into capable, confident individuals. The children will understand how to care for themselves and those around them.
Throughout the lessons, we discuss several important topics, everyday hazards and safety habits. We keep things interactive and encourage the children to share their own ideas and experiences.
Kitchen safety: Recognising dangers around stovetops, sharp tools and appliances.
Water safety: Understanding the risks near bathtubs, buckets and water play.
Electricity: Keeping fingers away from sockets and not mixing water with appliances.
Safe play: Using equipment properly and knowing when something’s too risky.
Each child also takes home the SeeMore Safety character, inviting families into the learning journey. What has been truly heartwarming is seeing parents and carers wandering through the home with their children. The parents and children are discussing safety risks together and exploring what might be unsafe in the kitchen, near water, around power points or outdoors. These moments of shared discovery not only strengthen safety awareness but also build communication and trust.
With support from their families, children document these experiences by taking photos of safe and unsafe situations. These are then brought back to the centre and added to our special floor book, which the children proudly share with their educators and peers. The discussions that follow are filled with excitement. The children light up as they explain what they’ve learned and discovered. In short, they’re proud, engaged and beginning to see themselves as a responsible member.
Lastly, A huge thank you to our kindergarten educators Manju, Shanveer, and Jobanpreet for leading this initiative with such thoughtfulness and care. Their efforts have turned a simple incursion into a sustained and meaningful safety education program that is now embedded into the heart of our kindergarten experience.
At Aspire Thornhill Village, we believe that even our youngest learners can take the lead in understanding their world and with SeeMore’s help, they’re doing just that.
Our Aspire Thornhill Village centre has spacious rooms that support children through their entire learning journey. The centre is staffed by a team of experienced and fully qualified educators, who are committed to providing the best possible care for every child.
