Riverwalk’s Kinder Programs – School Readiness and Beyond

Three and four-year-old kindergarten programs are key to a successful start to schooling. This is why Aspire Early Education Riverwalk Werribee has a robust kindergarten program that allows children to thrive. Riverwalk’s kinder programs are the perfect blend of structure and play.

A Focus on School Readiness

One of the most important aspects of any kindergarten program is ensuring school readiness. By applying a range of activities and concepts to Riverwalk’s kinder programs, children have a greater chance of thriving when they make the step to primary school.

Aspire Riverwalk nurtures practical mathematics skills such as sorting, stacking and counting. Using colourful pegs, children are encouraged to sort them by colour, count the pegs and also see how high they can stack them all! Tactile learning tools like this are great for a range of academic abilities, as well as for different learning styles. It has been found that learning resources such as these are extremely beneficial to a child's early learning and development.

The children at Riverwalk’s kinder program also love to cook! Basic cooking skills and a love for food are important to instil in young children. This gives them the opportunity to try new foods, as well as learn about cooking methods. The kindergarten children have had fun cutting up fruit and vegetables safely to make nutritious smoothies.

Cooking skills help children become school ready by further developing maths skills. For example, using measuring cups or cutting things into quarters or halves. Undertaking a recipe step-by-step can also help children understand cause and effect, and processes.

Children’s reading and writing skills are nurtured at Aspire Riverwalk's Kindergarten. From daily Storytime, to activities designed to assist children with holding writing implements, Riverwalk’s school readiness program prepares children for necessary literacy skills. By using tools such as playdough to increase letter recognition, children learn how to identify letters and have the motor skills to write them down.

Engaging Incursions at Riverwalk’s Kinder Programs

Incursion participation allows children to explore new skills, be exposed to new cultures and to develop confidence.

A favourite incursion held in Riverwalk’s funded kinder program is Sketchroo. Sketchroo is a creative, art-based incursion program that engages children creatively. Recently, children got to use soft pastels to create portraits of themselves. They all had fun with exploring different ways of expressing how they see themselves for these portraits.

This program helps the children express their creativity, refine motor skills, and best of all, explore the way they can express themselves through creative arts.

Our Kinder children also love to paint. Painting allows children to develop fine motor skills which help to support their development of hand control to support literacy skills such as writing. We offer painting and similar craft activities throughout the week, to engage our students’ creative sides.
