On Thursday 12th of September was R U OK? Day, an annual event in Australia that encourages people to check in on their friends, family, and colleagues. It’s a reminder that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and to start a meaningful conversation whenever you spot the signs that someone, you care about might be struggling.
The aim is to raise awareness about mental health and to promote open conversations about emotional well-being.
Many of our Aspire childcare centres recognised this day, with our educators coming dressed in yellow and enjoying some yummy yellow cupcakes and morning tea. Many of our Aspire families were also invited, making it a great day for us to come together and spread an important message. We also provided a range of resources and spoke about the importance of supporting one another and reaching out to those who may be struggling with their mental health.
Throughout some of the rooms, the children also participated in different R u Ok day activities, where they learnt about the important of emotions and checking in with their peers.
Check out some of the events and activities that took place across our Aspire Centres below.
At Aspire, we strongly support our employees’ health and wellbeing and provide our employees access to an Employment Assistance Program (EAP). This is a tool that is available to our employees 24/7 and a beneficial resource for them to use.
If you do see someone in your life struggling, have a conversation using these four steps:
