Pet Week at Aspire Cranbourne West!

Pet week was an exciting week full of fun, pet-themed activities and incursions at Aspire Early Education and Kindergarten Cranbourne West. Due to an increased interest in animals, and especially pets, in the centre’s children, the team organised an amazing week. Here’s a glimpse into the activities that made this week so special.
The excitement kicked off with our management team and some centre families bringing in their beloved dogs. The sight of these friendly pups not only brought smiles but also ignited curiosity as kids engaged with the dogs, learning how to interact safely and gently. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Charlize and her family for bringing in their striking German Shepherd, which was a definite highlight for the kids. Check out some of the gorgeous pictures of the children playing with the dogs below!
In our Woodland Kinder room, we introduced the brand-new StoryBox Hub program, featuring the delightful story of “Big Pet Day” on the big screen. This new tool, utilised at every Aspire centre, brings books to life; with stories read aloud by some of Australia’s favourite personalities, interactive games, and engaging, out-of-the-box activities to further implement what the children learn. During the session, the children were enthralled as the story came to life, discussing the animals and their adventures.

On the second day, we were thrilled to have a parent who works at a veterinary clinic visit us. This enlightening session focused on how to care for animals and included a live demonstration with our educators’ dog, Storm. The children were captivated by the hands-on experience of meeting Storm while learning vital lessons about kindness and responsibility toward pets. Our guest speaker’s expertise enriched the experience, leaving the children eager to learn more about animal care. The children also loved dressing Storm up, ready for a pretend vet check-up!
Wednesday offered another treat as the children had the opportunity to meet Biscuit, our educator Seema's pet bunny. Curiosity ran high as the children asked questions about his favourite foods and how to take care of him. Biscuit seemed to enjoy the attention, with the children fascinated by his soft fur and twitching nose. This interaction provided a wonderful opportunity for them to cultivate a sense of empathy and responsibility as budding little pet owners.
Our exciting week continued with a visit from centre parent Melody, a veterinarian, who brought along her adorable bunny, Oreo. Her presentation was filled with valuable insights into caring for pets and what being a vet entails. The children listened, learning about animal health and the importance of kindness towards all creatures. Oreo had the chance to hop about the classrooms and even explored the toddler yard! The children also asked questions about Oreo, to learn more about this cute friend. Thank you, Melody, for making this day even more special with you and Oreo’s delightful visit!
As we brought Pet Week to a close, we welcomed two extraordinary guests: Educator Stacey with her pet turtle Leo and one of our parents, a nurse vet, with her friendly dog Disney. Many of the children hadn’t seen a turtle up close before, so it was a very exciting experience for them. The children learned how to safely approach dogs and had the delightful experience of giving Disney some treats.
A huge thank you to all our educators and families who contributed to making this week so memorable. Pet Week has been more than just a series of fun activities, it has fostered essential lessons about responsibility, empathy, and the joy of caring for animals. We look forward to many more engaging experiences that deepen our children’s understanding and appreciation of the animal world!
