Movement and Physical Activity | Aspire Cranbourne West

Movement and physical activity are core components of growth and development in young children. There are always plenty of active activities on offer at Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten Cranbourne West. Read on to see what active fun has been going on at the centre recently!

Bushland Kinder Room - Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

The Bushland children (3-5-year-old Kindergarten room) practiced different yoga poses during group time. Yoga has been found to increase concentration and calm down busy minds, which can support their focus prior to learning for the day. Incorporating physical activity, as well as mindfulness, into the kindergarten curriculum can enhance learning outcomes and contribute to overall development. It offers numerous benefits like cognitive development, improving motor skills, social skills, emotional regulation, health and fitness.

Bushland room children also took part in the National ride2school program in late March. This is a day where teachers encourage children to ride their bikes, tricycles and scooters to the centre. The kids came on their bikes and trikes, along with their helmets, to learn about bike safety. Learning to ride a bike or scooter is an incredible way for children to practice their balance, as well as coordination to move their legs to pedal or push to move.

Blooms Children – Movement and Physical Activity

Recently, the Blooms children (18-24 months) took part in their very first excursion of the year. The children got chance to go to the local park nearby our centre. They were able to explore different outdoor learning spaces. This gave them the opportunity to challenge themselves with different activities and build their social interaction while playing with others.

It is important for children of this age to play and run around at the park or playground, as it develops their self-confidence. As well as that, it also builds motor skills such as balance and co-ordination, bilateral coordination, and hand-eye coordination.

At Aspire Cranbourne West, movement and physical activity are not just encouraged but integrated into the curriculum to foster development in young children. From practicing yoga to participating in programs like the National ride2school initiative, children across all age groups are provided with opportunities to engage in active play and exploration. By incorporating activities that promote both physical health and mindfulness, the centre not only enhances learning outcomes but also nurtures crucial skills like concentration, social interaction, and motor coordination. Through these experiences, children are not only developing physically but also cognitively, laying a strong foundation for their overall wellbeing.
