Aspire Early Education Deanside had a very special guest visit their Kindergarten rooms on the 11th of October. Healthy Harold the giraffe from Life Education Victoria came to teach the children about healthy living and safety. This familiar and well-loved Australian icon delighted the children, and taught important life lessons.
Life Education (Life Ed) believes that every child deserves to thrive. This is why they teach young people aged 3-13 the health, safety and wellbeing skills to make better decisions in their lives. Life Ed knows that kids learn best by having fun! This is why they invite their friend, Healthy Harold the Giraffe to help teach important lessons in each session. For the last 45 years, Life Ed has been teaching important lessons to children in Australia, and across the world.
Their Early Years Learning program comprises of three modules, focused on physical health, social and emotional wellbeing and safety. Their program aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and educates youngsters in a fun and engaging way.
The Room 6 Kinder children took part in the “Super Safe” Life Ed incursion. This session covers important topics such as car and road safety, sun and water safety, safety around medication and cyber safety. It also teaches children about the idea of connections, including people who keep us safe and building help-seeking skills, developing children’s agency to ensure the safety of themselves and others. The kids loved learning about the importance of safety in a fun and interactive way with Harold the Giraffe. Learning about staying safe in the community is an extremely important lesson, so sharing how to do so with children from an early age is key.
Healthy Harold also visited the Room 8 four-year-old Kinder room for an exciting session about healthy eating!
In their “Harold’s Healthy Day” session, the children learned about making nutritious choices. They did this through engaging in activities, sorting play foods, and exploring healthy habits together. They also learnt about the importance of sleep and rest, hygiene and why we should participate in physical activity. Interactive music, songs and storytelling, as well as fun games, helped the children understand the need to look after their bodies. The incursion was a fun and interactive way to encourage healthy minds and lives.
Finally, Healthy Harold and the Life Education team visited the Room 7 Kinder children. They were lucky enough to take part in the “Big Feelings” session. This module talks about emotional regulation, friendship, emotional literacy and seeking help.
Through fun activities and discussions, the children explored different emotions and learned how to express and manage their feelings in healthy ways. It was a fantastic opportunity for the kids to connect with Harold and gain valuable tools for understanding their emotions.
The centre children loved meeting Healthy Harold and taking part in the Life Education programs. They learnt about ways to regulate their emotions, make healthy food choices and be safe in the community, alongside many other important lessons.
