Ramlegh's Imaginative Learning Spaces

Ice cream Shop

Recently, the 3-year-old Kinder children have been busy creating an Ice Cream Shop in the classroom as their home corner experience. In this learning space, the children act as the ice cream shop assistant, make the ice creams and serve them.

Through pretend play, children learn about themselves and the practice real-world scenarios. Dramatic play experiences are some of the first ways children learn about their likes and dislikes, their interests, and their abilities.

The Zoo

Another fun set up the children love is Ramlegh’s new Zoo encounter. This offered different experiences for the children to also engage in dramatic play. The toddler children in the Joey’s room enjoyed feeding the animals using Pom poms, cotton balls and paper. They focused on using their hand eye coordination and concentration skills when placing it in the animal’s mouth.

One of the wonderful educators also created a Giraffe and monkey photo frame. The toddler children enjoyed placing their head into the hole where they noticed that they turned into an animal if they looked up and down. It was such a fun experience and a great photo moment!

Hair Dressing Salon

The Kinder children have also been exploring the new hair dressing salon. It has been great to see the children explore their imagination, participate in role play and increase their communication skills.

One of Ramlegh’s new educators Kelly was lucky enough to be the customer in the hair dressing salon. The children pretended to do her hair and makeup, cut her hair and do some different hair styling with one another. It was a fun experience for the children, and we may even have some aspiring hairdressers among us!

Benefits of Imaginative Play in Early Education

Imaginative play is crucial for children's development, offering numerous social, emotional and physical benefits.

Cognitively, it enhances creativity and problem-solving skills, allowing children to explore different scenarios and outcomes. This type of play also enriches language development, as children experiment with new vocabulary and complex sentence structures during role-play and storytelling. Socially, imaginative play is vital for developing cooperation, negotiation, and empathy. Children learn to understand different perspectives and work together to create shared narratives. Emotionally, it provides a safe environment for expressing feelings, helping children process and manage emotions in a healthy way. Physically, imaginative play often involves activities that build coordination and fine motor skills, such as crafting or constructing with blocks. Additionally, it fosters cultural awareness by exposing children to diverse roles and experiences, encouraging open-mindedness and acceptance.

Imaginative play is crucial for overall development, establishing a solid base for lifelong learning and social skills.
