Holi Celebrations at Aspire Kalkallo

Holi is a vibrant and colorful Hindu festival celebrated primarily in India and Nepal, but also in various other parts of the world. It typically falls in March, marking the arrival of spring. The festival is renowned for its joyous atmosphere, where people of all ages come together to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the blossoming of love.

The main characteristic of Holi is the throwing and smearing of colored powders and water, leading to its common name, the "Festival of Colors”. Apart from the colorful celebrations, Holi is also a time for families and friends to come together, exchange sweets and delicacies, and enjoy traditional music and dance.

Celebrating Holi at Aspire Kalkallo

On Thursday 25th of March, Aspire Kalkallo celebrated Holi at their centre. The children and educators who participated had fun throwing coloured powder in the air, and shared laughter and happiness amongst each other. Non-toxic powder was used to ensure the safety of the children, as well as any eye protection as needed.

The children and staff loved celebrating and taking part in this event, one that is part of the culture of many families at Aspire Kalkallo. See some of the happy snaps of the children and Kalkallo team below!

As Aspire, we believe it’s important to recognise the different cultures and traditions that our families celebrate to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity within our centres.

Celebrating an event such as Holi, also offers numerous benefits for children’s development and education. Introducing children to diverse cultural traditions like Holi helps them develop an appreciation and awareness for different traditions, and a greater understanding of different values.

Engaging in activities such as playing with colored powders during Holi celebrations also provides children with rich sensory experiences. These activities stimulate their senses of sight, touch, and even smell, fostering sensory exploration and development. It also promotes physical exercise and gross motor skill development among young children, as well as promoting positive relationships and emotional development through interacting and having fun with their peers.

Overall, celebrating Holi in early learning enriches children's educational experiences, promotes cultural understanding, and benefits their development across a range of different areas.
