Henny Penny Hatching Program at Aspire Beveridge

The long-awaited arrival of the Henny Penny Hatching program has officially arrived at Aspire Early Education Beveridge! The children have loved this new program and watching the eggs hatch, and the little chicks grow and develop.

Read on to learn more about the program and the educational benefits.

Henny Penny Hatching

The Henny Penny Hatching program is led by experienced staff who deliver and set up an eleven-day incubation program.

The program begins with the incubation of fertilised eggs in an incubator, typically over a period of 21 days. Children are able to observe the eggs as they incubate, learning about temperature regulation, humidity, and the conditions needed for hatching. As the incubation period nears its end, children get to watch the exciting moment when the eggs begin to crack, and the chicks start to hatch!

The children at Aspire Beveridge early awaited the hatching process and their eyes lit up when they saw the chicks hatching. After they hatched, the children got to take part in feeding and holding the chicks under supervision of the educators. They loved watching them grow and develop, and even start to make small chirping noises!

This program provided an amazing hands-on learning experience that captured the children’s attention and sparked curiosity. The children don’t want to see the chicks go! Check out some of the photos below.

Educational Benefits

The Henny Penny program is not just a fun experience, but also provides learning and educational benefits for the children. Some of these include:

  • Hands-on Learning - The Henny Penny program provides a hands-on learning experience that teaches children the stages of life, from egg to chick, and how living creatures grow and develop. It's a practical, interactive way to introduce young learners to biology and science concepts.
  • Responsibility and Care - Throughout the program, children are often involved in the care of the eggs, such as monitoring temperature and humidity in the incubator. After hatching, children may also take part in feeding, cleaning, and handling the chicks. These tasks develop a sense of responsibility and care, which are important traits to have as a child.
  • Understanding Lifecycles – While the children observe the hatching process, the educators alsolearn lessons andhave discussions relating to the animal’s life cycle and the wider concepts of nature and growth. This encourages critical thinking and supports STEM education, which is part of Aspire’s kinder curriculum.
  • Empathy and Connection – As the children observe the chicks hatching and watching them grow and develop, they start to build a connection with the chicks. This connection with the little chicks helps build the children’s nurturing skills and a sense of empathy and care.

This program is a fun and educational way to bring nature into the classroom, fostering curiosity and learning about the natural world in an engaging and memorable way.
