Harmony Week – Clyde North

Harmony Week at Aspire Clyde North was an enriching experience filled with cultural exploration, learning, and fun activities. The centre celebrate diversity and promotes inclusivity among our young learners. Read on to learn about how the centre celebrated and uplifted the diversity of the centre’s children and staff.

Cultural Food During Harmony Week

One of the highlights of the week was the opportunity for the children to make and share different cultural foods.

The kindergarten children, along with their educators, embarked on a culinary journey, preparing a delightful array of dishes from various cultures. The Skippers, our 4-year-old kindergarten group, rolled up their sleeves and crafted Lebanese Megli and Italian Bruschetta, featuring fresh basil sourced from our very own garden. The 3-year-old Kindergarten room created an incredible mango lassi and fairy bread, sprinkled with the colours of the Italian flag. These yummy treats were enjoyed during afternoon tea, fostering a sense of togetherness and appreciation for different cuisines.

Exploring Culture in the Waratah Room

Meanwhile, our Waratah children, aged 3 years old, had a special session with our wonderful Educator Cristina, who shared captivating stories about her Salvadoran heritage, influenced by Native American culture. This engaging session not only captivated their young minds but also provided them with valuable opportunities to develop listening, communication, and social skills. Moreover, it sparked their curiosity and encouraged them to make meaningful connections with the world around them.

As part of their Harmony Week activities, the Waratah children also delved into discussions about their similarities and differences. Through interactive storytelling using the book "Whoever You Are," they discovered that despite varying cultural backgrounds, everyone experiences common emotions like happiness and sadness. This realisation fosters empathy and respect for their classmates' perspectives, nurturing a culture of acceptance and understanding among the children.

Cultural exploration plays a pivotal role in shaping young minds and nurturing a deep appreciation for diversity. By immersing our children in experiences that celebrate different cultures and traditions, we lay the foundation for a more harmonious and inclusive future, where we celebrate and embrace differences. Aspire Clyde North’s Harmony Week celebrations were a testament to the power of education in fostering unity and respect among our children.
