Family Fun at the Wollert Diwali Fun Fair
Aspire Early Education Wollert celebrated a bright and light-filled Diwali Fun Fair at the Aurora Town Centre Park last Friday. The event drew in a number of families and friends of the Aspire Wollert community, and the feeling of celebration was felt throughout the evening. The event was supported by our partners at Lendlease.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali to some, is an important religious festival that has its origins in India. It takes place every year and lasts five days, marking the start of the Hindu New Year. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas. The celebration also commemorates the triumph of good over evil. There are many local legends associated with the festival within India and in some surrounding countries.
Our celebrations included a wonderful performance of modern and traditional dance and music from the Bollywood dance school. It’s a great way to share with the community the customs and culture of Diwali and get the crowd dancing!
There was also mehndi body art on offer, with gorgeous designs on display everywhere you looked. Mehndi is a form of temporary skin decoration using a paste created with henna, popular in the Indian sub-continent. It is traditionally applied at weddings, births, and other large celebrations, like Diwali.
Our friends at Little Sports Heroes also provided fun and active activities at the event. Kids young (and young at heart) enjoyed running around and got their bodies moving. It was perfect for zapping the energy of energetic little ones!
The Aspire Wollert Diwali Fun Fair was a success, with plenty of cultural fun, food and community connections. A big thanks to the Aspire team for making this event as magical as possible!
