Exploring the Kinder Program at Aspire Riverwalk

The Kinder Program at Aspire Riverwalk is thorough, educational and engaging, and prepares children for primary school and beyond. With many fantastic programs in both our three and four-year-old kinder rooms, there are many opportunities to connect, learn and grow.
Connecting with local primary schools is key to the kinder program at Aspire Riverwalk. Recently the four-year-olds at Aspire Riverwalk visited the nearby Riverwalk Primary School. The day started with the children walking to the school, utilising the road safety lessons they had learnt previously. They then enjoyed a guided library visit and listened to one of the school’s students read a story to them. Playing in the school’s playground would have to be one of the highlights of the day. It was much bigger and taller than the one the children were used to at the Riverwalk centre!
Many of the children at Aspire Riverwalk go to Riverwalk Primary School after they graduate from the centre, so creating this connection is especially important. It familiarises the children with their soon-to-be primary school and gives them the confidence to be a part of the school community.
Thank you to the wonderful team at Riverwalk Primary School for hosting us.
The 3-year-old Kinder Waterfall Room and 4-year-old Billabong Room have become noticeably greener and more vibrant this season. Spring is one of our favourite seasons, as it opens a world of exciting learning opportunities for our children. We explore things such as gardening, discovering crawling creatures, exploring weather patterns, water play, and more!
With the warmer weather, the kinder rooms have been bustling with activity, as children plant seedlings into garden beds. They take turns watering and monitoring the plants' growth and learn about the fascinating life cycle of plants while also exploring key mathematical concepts.
The children’s curiosity shines as they ask thoughtful questions like, "How long will it take until we harvest the plants?" We can’t wait to see, and taste, the fruits of their hard work!
One of the children’s favourite incursions is the fortnightly visit from Denver from Sketchroo. This program is a creative arts session where children unleash their creative side. Recently the children experimented with paint. They spread out paint onto white boards using paint rollers. Then the children used their fingers to make marks and draw in the paint. After they created a design, a piece of white paper was spread on top of the paint and peeled off to reveal their art!
Being creative with visual arts is an important way to build a variety of skills in little learners. From improving hand-eye coordination, colour theory, fine motor skills and creative thinking, art is important for children’s growth and development. Studies show that when children explore artistic practices, they can have stronger outcomes in subjects such as maths and science.
