Engaging Experiences at During Clyde North’s Farm Excursion

Aspire Clyde North’s recent farm excursion was a massive hit! The visit, taken to link with the kindergarten children’s inquiry-based learning with real-life experiences, has been a much-anticipated excursion. Inquiry-Based Learning

Before heading off to the farm, the Three-Year-Old children from the Waratah room learnt about farm animals in the classroom. The children have been taking an increased interest in animals and where food comes from. Because of this, the Waratah room teachers have included fun farm-based activities for the kids. They have read stories about farm animals, and have sung fun songs and rhymes. “Bingo” is a class favourite.

One enjoyable activity was making a farm out of sustainable and recycled materials. The children used scrap cardboard for corrugated iron, paper towel rolls as trees and silos, and all sorts of other scraps as the rest of the farm landscape. Allowing children’s imaginations to run free like this helps them increase their creative capacity and social skills as they play and build the farm together.  

By linking classroom lessons with excursions such as a visit to a farm, it reinforces the student’s learning. As children learn using different learning styles, it gives the opportunity for children that learn best by doing or seeing a chance to take in more information.

The Farm Excursion

The day finally came... Farm day!!! The children jumped onto the bus and travelled to Caldermeade Farm. The highlight was watching the milking process, where they saw how cows are milked and learned about the journey of milk from the farm to our tables. They also looked at all the different animals including sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, learning about all their different roles.

The excursion to Caldermeade Farm taught them about how to care for animals and the importance of animal agriculture. The children were also very excited to learn about food production.

Both fun and educational, this farm excursion gave the children a deeper appreciation for farm life as well as the work that goes into the food they love! It is sure to be an experience they won’t forget.
