Little Gardeners in Action

The toddler rooms recently had an exciting trip into the Kinder yard to tend to the centre’s veggie patch. To start they planted seeds for the season and watered them to give them the best chance of thriving. The educators teach about plants and how to best care for them. The children have been especially receptive to this and are thoroughly enjoying their time out in nature.

Learning Essential Skills in Deanside’s Toddler Program

One of the big focuses of Aspire’s Little Learners Toddler Program is cultivating basic life skills and developing motor skills. Aspire Deanside has successfully implemented this by practising self-help skills. The toddler children are encouraged to serve themselves during snack time by using tongs to pick up food. This activity, although quite basic, helps children develop their hand-eye coordination as well as their fine motor skills.

A colour-sorting station is a fun area for Deanside’s toddler children to play and learn in the last few weeks. This station combines both colour and shape recognition with a fun matching game, which has been very popular. Early mathematics and spatial awareness skills are being built upon and create the foundation for further learning.  

Sorting items by colour is a fantastic way to enhance spatial skills and build upon visual perceptual, thinking and memory skills.

Making Magic in the Toddler Room

Deanside’s Toddler Program got a bit spooky during Halloween! The Little Learners had fun creating their own witchy brew using a number of things like leaves, flower petals and paper. They practised measuring, stirring and pouring, all whilst engaging in imaginative play. This experience supported their fine motor skills as well as their sense of agency in participating in a seasonal holiday.
