The festival of Holi, also known as the "Festival of Colours" or "Spring Festival," is one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated festivals in India and among Hindu communities worldwide. It typically falls in March, marking the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere, and the victory of good over evil. People celebrate Holi with great enthusiasm, and brings people together in a colourful and joyous celebration.
The main day of Holi is marked by the playful throwing of coloured powders and water. People come together in streets, parks, and open spaces, armed with coloured powders, water guns, and water balloons. They chase each other, smear dye powder on faces and clothes, and drench each other in coloured water. This exciting aspect of Holi is known as "Rangwali Holi."
For the children at Aspire Thornhill Park, Holi was a day of colour, fun and excitement. Their faces lit up with delight as they chased each other with playful abandon, their clothes and faces transformed into a canvas of vibrant colours. Using traditional powder dyes, it was a colourful spectacle for all. Check out some pictures below!
But Holi was not just about throwing dye around; it was also a time for reflection and renewal. As we came together to celebrate, the children forged bonds of friendship and camaraderie that transcended barriers. It was a reminder of the power of unity and the beauty of diversity, encapsulated in a day of shared joy and celebration.
At Aspire, we place great importance on recognising cultural differences, and celebrating the events and festivals that our centre families celebrate at home. Teaching the children about different events and cultures is an important step in becoming worldly and respectful people.
Everyone had a wonderful and bright time celebrating Holi at Aspire Thornhill Park, and we are already looking forward to next year!
