Buzzing with Excitement: World Bee Day at Aspire Pakenham!

Tuesday 20th May was World Bee Day, which raises awareness of the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to a sustainable future.
This year’s theme, announced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is "Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all." It emphasises how bees contribute not only to food production, but also to the health of our broader environment—supporting thriving ecosystems and enriching the landscapes we enjoy every day.
World Bee Day is a valuable opportunity to bring bees into the national conversation—raising awareness and inspiring action to support and protect these essential species.
At Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten Pakenham, they celebrated Bee Day by having a Bee Incursion for the kinder children. Learn more about this fun and educational experience below!

Aspire Pakenham were fortunate to have Wattle Tree Beekeeping provide an engaging Bee Incursion for the children at the centre. The Bee teacher went through an engaging presentation that showed the importance of bees and pollination in our ecosystem, how bees make and protect their honey, the lifespan of bees, why bees sting us and more!
The teacher also showed the children a honey frame which is a structural element in a beehive that holds the honeycomb. It was cool to see the honey in the frame up-close and personal. The children also got to see a bee smoker, which is used in beekeeping to calm the honey bees.
They then got to see some real-life bees through an observation hive! To protect the bees (and the children) the bees were in a glass covered box that easily enabled the children to view the amazing bees without getting hurt. In the observation hive, there were over 1000 bees which really sparked the children’s excitement!
Furthermore, the children had a turn at wearing what a beekeeper would wear to be safe around bees which had the children very excited! Throughout this experience, the children learnt so much about bees and how they make honey for us, as well as some fun facts they didn’t previously know.
Check out some of the photos from the incursion below!
