Celebrating Grandparent’s and Special People's Day

Sunday 27th of October was Grandparents' Day, a special occasion that celebrates grandparents, grand-friends, relatives, and anyone who takes on the role of a grandparent within their family or community. Grandparents' Day gives us a chance to recognise and make a special effort in letting our older relatives know how much they are appreciated and mean to us.

Our Aspire centres were thrilled to celebrate Grandparents Day and held special events where they invited the children’s grandparents and loves ones to the centre. From enjoying delicious food and treats together, to participating in a range of fun activities, it was a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together for the children and their grandparents.

Engaging in Experiences Together

For Grandparent’s Day, Aspire Kalkallo set up different experiences and activities that the children and their grandparents could participate in together. Some of these experiences included creating their own mug designs, painting handprints and creating different drawings, storytime and more.

At Aspire Cobblebank, the educators also set up a range of experiences for the children and their grandparents to enjoy together. These included drawing portraits of each other, using art materials to create faces, designing bookmarks and making your own garden pots to take home.

Participating in hands-on activities with each other creates memorable experiences and gives the children’s family a glimpse into some of the activities that the children engage in on a weekly basis.

Sea Incursion at Aspire Baldivis

To celebrate Grandparent’s Day, Aspire Baldivis invited grandparents and significant others to come and join their critters up close aquatics incursion with the children. This incursion helps the children expand their learning about freshwater and marine. From frogs to turtles and sea stars to sharks, the educational displays are interacting and tailored to young children’s learning. All children participated in the incursion with their grandparents, which they thoroughly enjoyed and the grandparents loved this different experience too! Everyone was then then invited to enjoy some delicious afternoon tea of scones, watermelon and bliss balls. Yum!

Aspire Bella Estate’s Age Care Visit

Aspire Bella Estate celebrated Grandparents Day by inviting residents from Luson Aged Care to the centre to spend some time with the children. It was such a memorable day, with lots of smiles and dancing to lively Bollywood music. The residents also participated in a planting activity where they planted native plants that they had named together with the children. It was heartwarming to witness the residents and children bonding over stories and laughter.

Bella Estate is grateful for this connection they have with Luson Aged Care and being able to provide experiences that provide joy to both the residents and the children.

Delicious Food Spreads

And there’s nothing better than some yummy food to enjoy with each other! Many of our Aspire centres celebrated Grandparent’s Day with morning or afternoon tea spreads. These delicious food spreads included both savoury and sweet treats such as sandwiches, cakes, cookies, fruit and more.

Grandparent’s Day is one of our favourite events on the Aspire Calendar, and we love sharing these special moments with people who have a significant impact on the children’s lives.
