Bush Kinder Experience at Aspire Cranbourne West

Aspire Cranbourne West’s Bush Kinder experience is a fantastic way for children to explore the world around them. This integrated program brings the classroom outside, which helps child development in many ways. The kinder children recently visited the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens and took part in a variety of exciting activities.

What is Bush Kinder?

A bush kinder program is a way for children to learn in the great outdoors, by bringing the classroom outside. Aspire runs bush kinder programs at a number of centres, most notably at Aspire Bendigo – Kennington. You can learn more about their bush kinder program in the article here.

Bush kinder typically means taking children out to a nearby park, reserve, beach or forest to immerse themselves in nature. Children are encouraged to explore, learn and play in the natural environment. This type of program can also help children develop a love for the great outdoors, as well as care for their natural environment.

Bush Kinder Experience – Cranbourne West

Aspire Cranbourne West has been undertaking its bush kinder program for a few years. It is a highlight for our kinder children, and they look forward to each month!  

Recently our children embarked on an exciting Bush Kinder excursion to the local botanic gardens. Here they immersed themselves in nature and engaged in a variety of enriching activities. The day was filled with opportunities to learn about the natural world through hands-on experiences and sensory exploration.

This excursion began with a focus on the five senses. The children participated in activities designed to heighten their awareness of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. They observed the vibrant colours of the flowers, listened to the sounds of birds and rustling leaves, felt the textures of different plants, tasted lemon myrtle tea, and inhaled the fragrant aromas of various herbs and flowers. This sensory exploration helped the children to connect more deeply with their environment and develop a greater appreciation for the natural world.

A highlight of the day was trying lemon myrtle tea for the first time. The children gathered around as the tea was prepared, and each child had the opportunity to taste this unique herbal infusion. The experience of tasting lemon myrtle tea was both educational and enjoyable, introducing the children to new flavours and the concept of using native plants for culinary purposes.

You and Me Murrawee

Afterwards, they participated in an interactive learning experience called “You and Me Murrawee”. This hands-on activity gave the children the opportunity to connect with nature in meaningful ways. Later they touched and looked at animal skins, gaining insight into the characteristics of different native animals. In the sandpit, children explored different animal tracks and footprints from a range of Australian animals. Lastly, the class held an engaging animal dance and singing session using clapsticks. The children expressed themselves creatively, combining movement and music, which enhanced their coordination and rhythm.
