Beekeeper Incursion at Aspire Atherstone

On Wednesday 5th of February, Aspire Early Education and Kindergarten Atherstone had an exciting Beekeeper incursion for the Kinder rooms. The children were captivated by the bees, making it an unBEElievable experience they won’t forget!
Aspire Atherstone was fortunate to have Minibeast Incursions come to the centre and run a captivating Bee Incursion for the kinder children. The incursion was delivered by a registered beekeeper and experienced classroom teacher and was presented safely in a classroom.
The bees were displayed in a sealed observation frame, showing the wax comb, bees and their behaviour, larvae, pollen and honey stores. The kinder children got to learn all about bees and visually experience how they make honey through the enclosed observatory of a real hive in action. They also discovered the different tastes of honey and how beekeepers use nature and technology to care for bees and harvest honey.
It was a fun and educational hands-on experience for the children that offered numerous benefits to their learning and development. Check out some photos from the incursion below!
Bee incursions can offer several valuable benefits for a child’s learning.
Bees help us understand how all living things in nature are connected. By learning about bees, students can see how important these tiny creatures are for plants, food, and the environment. Bees can also be a great way to talk about biology (how bees live), physics (how they fly), and even math (how they build their hives), making these subjects more easily understandable for young children. Learning about bees and how important they are for growing food, can also increase their appreciation of the environment and being more eco-friendly.
Furthermore, incursions like this can help enhance their social and cognitive development. During the program, the children work together, share responsibilities and learn to take care of something important. This helps their collaboration and communication skills, which are important aspects of social development. Watching how bees work and communicate can also help students think about how things get done in nature. They can learn to ask questions, solve problems, and think critically about how to make their world better.
Bee incursions are a fun way to learn about the natural world and the importance of protecting our planet. All while making science and nature more exciting!
