Aspire Truganina’s Community Library

Today Aspire Early Education Truganina launched their Community Library at the centre for Aspire families and the community. In the foyer area of Truganina’s centre, there is a beautiful book stand that has been set up with a range of books. This initiative gives the opportunity for families to borrow one of the books from Truganina’s library to read at home, and then return the book once you’re done. See some photos of the library below!
Truganina’s Community library aims to encourage reading and promote the benefits of literacy in early childhood development. Having books readily available for families and children also encourages reading when it’s easily accessible, as we recognise our families have very busy schedules.
Aspire Truganina also implements reading and storytelling activities throughout their curriculum, to further promote children’s interest in reading and enhance their literacy and development.
Aiding young children to read books helps them develop several skills including vocabulary, creativity, concentration and communication. Read more about some of the key benefits below!

Reading exposes children to a rich variety of words, helping them become familiar with words and expand their vocabulary. It also helps improve their language and early literacy skills, which helps them go on to read successfully as they transition to school.
Regular reading also helps children develop longer attention spans and improve their concentration. Through stories, children also learn to understand and evaluate the narrative structure, which enhances their ability to think critically.
Reading about different characters and their experiences in storybooks helps children develop empathy and understand different perspectives. Books stimulate imagination, allowing children to explore new worlds and ideas, fostering creativity.
Reading can also be a calming activity which helps reduce stress in children.
Books often introduce children to different cultures, perspectives and social norms, which promotes inclusivity and social understanding. Exposure to a variety of language and expressions also enhances children’s ability to communicate more clearly and effectively, improving their communication and social skills.
Reading together with their educators and parents or caregivers also provides a valuable opportunity for connection and strengthening relationships.
Encouraging reading at a young age helps instill a lifelong love for learning and curiosity and can greatly improve their school readiness and opportunities later in life.
