Aspire Ramlegh’s Centre Garden

Our brand-new Aspire Early Education Ramlegh centre in Clyde North has introduced a centre garden into their outdoor area at the centre. This has been a great opportunity for the children to learn about gardening, plants, and sustainability first-hand, which helps them develop a love and respect for nature as they grow.

Ramlegh’s Centre Garden

Recently Ramlegh has set up an outdoor garden at their centre, which will see the children plant various fruit and vegetables. The kinder rooms kick started the centres fruit and vegetable garden by planting snow peas alongside our centre chef and sustainability officer. Over time the children will be watering, nurturing, and looking after the fruit and vegetable garden which provides them with a sense of responsibility.

It also provides discussions on the lifecycle of plants and knowledge on how fruit and vegetables grow. When children actively participate in growing their own produce, they are more likely to try new foods and develop a preference for nutritious food options.

Fast forward a few weeks and Ramlegh’s centre garden is starting to sprout! They are now seeing carrots and snap peas start to sprout, and the lemon tree is starting to grow some big, beautiful lemons. See some pictures of the garden’s progress below!

The children are excited to see their centre garden continue to grow over the coming weeks!

Benefits of Gardening for Young Children

The opportunities for children are endless in a garden! Gardening and plating fruit and vegetables provides hands-on learning experiences that can enhance various aspects of a child's education. Children can learn about plant life cycles, photosynthesis, plant parts, and the importance of water and sunlight in plant growth. These lessons not only foster scientific knowledge but also encourage curiosity and critical thinking skills.

They can also explore and consolidate mathematical skills through counting scoops of dirt, filling pots and measuring watering cans. Planting with their peers also promotes growth in their social skills by working together with other children and educators, as they learn and care for the garden together.  

Outdoors experiences also provide an opportunity for children to explore their environment and experience the natural world, as well as strengthen their fine and gross motor movement skills, and get a little messy.
