Aspire Pakenham's Excursion to the Retirement Village

Excursions and regular outings are part of our Aspire curriculum and provide valuable opportunities for children to explore their wider community and make meaningful connections. At Aspire Early Education Pakenham, they offer a range of excursions for their Kinder rooms that offer different learning experiences in new environment. Recently the 4-year-old Kinder children went on an excursion to visit the local retirement village.

Kinder Children Visit the Retirement Village
Our Aspire Pakenham 4-year-old Kindergarten children recently enjoyed an excursion to the local retirement village in Pakenham. Children enjoyed every bit of the excursion which began from the bus journey to talking, singing, dancing, acting and spending quality time with the elders at the retirement village. The children introduced themselves and spoke about what they love doing in their spare time. They also enjoyed some reading time with the elders and some fun activities. This experience really put a smile on the children’s faces, as well as the elders who were thrilled to spend some time with the children.
This excursion was a great opportunity for the children to have intergenerational interaction, while helping to combat loneliness and isolation among the elderly by fostering empathy and social responsibility in our younger generations.
Check out some of the adorable photos that were captured at the visit. Our Aspire Pakenham Kinder children look forward to many more future visits to the Retirement home!
Benefits of Visiting Retirement Homes
Benefits for Children
Intergenerational programs that bring children into retirement homes can have numerous benefits for children. These visits can improve the children’s language and communication skills, by talking to adults who are likely to use different language and vocabulary. Building on their communication skills, also helps to improve their confidence, and provides an opportunity for social interaction and engagement with older adults that some children may not experience in their life.
Spending time with older adults can also foster a greater appreciation for the value of life and create opportunities for learning and mentorship in a nurturing environment. This experience can also help children develop empathy and a sense of social responsibility and connection to their community.
Benefits for the Residents
Bringing children into aged care homes can also have numerous benefits for the residents there. These visits can provide a sense of purpose and meaning for the residents who may otherwise feel socially isolated at times. It also helps to build their language and physical skills by reading and drawing books to the children, asking them questions, and slow movements during different activities. Interacting with children can also help to boost the residents' mood, as they are able to engage with young people and reminisce about their own childhoods.
This Intergenerational program provides several benefits for both the residents and the children at our Aspire centre, and we are excited to introduce it as an ongoing program.
Aspire Pakenham understands the importance of providing the Kinder children with these different experiences to help with their learning, growth and development. To learn more about our programs at Aspire Pakenham, book a tour of our centre today. Or enquire now to speak to a member of our team.
