Cranbourne North's Connection with the Local Aged Care

Intergenerational connections is an important way for young children to connect and develop empathy and respect for older generations. These connections provide children with valuable life lessons, whilst also offering older adults a sense of purpose and connection with younger generations.

At Aspire Early Education Cranbourne North, the children are building friendships and connections with residents from Lusan Blooms Aged Care, who recently visited the centre. This visit provided an engaging experience for both the children and residents who enjoyed wholesome food and activities.

Lusan Blooms Aged Care Visits the Centre

Last month, Aspire Cranbourne North had a special visit from some of the residents at Lusan Blooms Aged. This created a wonderful opportunity to foster intergenerational connections. On their arrival, the residents were greeted by the friendly team and offered some delicious food cooked by the chef.

They then sat down on tables in the yard where educators had set up activities for the residents and children to engage in. One of these involved creating patterns on Aboriginal artwork with pebble stones. It was a fun learning activity that both ages could enjoy. This experience not only encouraged social interaction but also helped children develop empathy and respect for older adults.

The residents at Lusan Blooms Aged Care had a wonderful experience at Aspire Cranbourne North and even took home a wonderful care pack made by the team. The Cranbourne North management team were honoured to have them visit the centre, and are excited to organise future visits, as well as an excursion for the children to visit the Aged Care too.

The Benefits of Creating Intergenerational Connections

Aspire Cranbourne North have formed this connection with Lusan Blooms Aged Care because they understand the importance of creating intergenerational connections in early education, and the positive impact on children, older adults, and the broader community.

By interacting with older adults, children can develop important skills like empathy, patience and communication. They can learn from a variety of life experiences and perspectives, which can be especially important for children who may not have an older figure in their life. It also helps to strengthen family and community bonds, where children learn the value of cooperation and contributing to the community.

While it has many benefits for young children, these interactions can have a significant impact on older adults as well. Interacting with young children provides older adults with a renewed sense of purpose. Being able to share their knowledge, skills, and life experiences can be deeply fulfilling and give them a meaningful role in the community. These interactions can also foster emotional connections, and help combat any feelings of loneliness or isolation, which can be common feelings felt by older adults.

Intergenerational activities, like the ones organised by Cranbourne North, can also give older adults opportunities to develop their cognitive function and engage socially, which are important for their mental and emotional health.

With many benefits for both younger and older generations, we are proud at Aspire to have such strong connections with our local Aged cares and community as a whole.
