Aspire Berwick Waters Fun Excursion to the Library

In celebration of Book Week, our Aspire Berwick Waters kindergarten children went on an excursion to Bunjil Place – Casey Cardinia Library. The architectural design of Bunjil Place is inspired by Bunjil the Creator, represented by the form of a wedge-tailed eagle. The library’s extensive collection, diverse range of books, and supportive staff provided the children with an enriching opportunity to explore both informative and captivating content. Libraries offer unparalleled access to a wealth of knowledge, making them an ideal environment for engaging young minds.

Berwick Waters Visit to the Library

The Berwick Waters Kinder children were thrilled to hop on the bus and visit the Bunjil Place library as part of their kinder excursion program. During the library visit, the children enjoyed an informative and interactive session with Tim, who guided them through the process of borrowing books from the library. Tim also led captivating reading sessions, where the children eagerly listened to stories and explored new books.

It was a great opportunity to explore a different setting outside of the classroom, and help spark their interest in reading and literacy.  The joy on the children’s faces was undeniable as they discovered the magic of the library and all it has to offer. It was a day filled with learning, exploration, and a whole lot of fun—one that the children will surely remember fondly.

The Benefits of Library Excursions

Visiting the library in early education offers numerous benefits that support the developmental needs of young children. Here are some key advantages:

Promotes Early Literacy Development

Libraries provide access to a wide variety of books that encourage a love for reading and storytelling from a young age. Regular visits to the library can enhance vocabulary, listening skills, and comprehension as children engage with books and stories.

Increases Cognitive Development

Exploring different types of books and media helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Libraries are spaces where children can explore new topics and ideas, fostering curiosity and a love of learning.

Social and Emotional Growth

Libraries often host group activities like storytimes, where children can interact with peers, enhancing their social skills. Allowing children to choose their own books or participate in library activities can boost their confidence and independence. Interacting with adults at the library also helps improve their social skills and confidence.

Preparation for School

Regular library visits help children become accustomed to structured environments, which is beneficial when transitioning to formal schooling. Familiarity with library resources can help children as they progress in their education, making it easier for them to research and find information. Many libraries also offer educational programs, workshops, and events that are tailored to young children, providing additional learning opportunities outside the classroom.

Visiting the library can be a fun and educational experience that significantly contributes to a child’s early development and lifelong love of learning.
