All Together Now! Group Time at Aspire Cranbourne West

Young children are social beings, who love to play, interact, and work together in teams. The kindergarten programs at Aspire Cranbourne West includes lots of group games and time spent together. Keep reading to discover why group activities and games are beneficial for young children, and how group time at Aspire Cranbourne West is implemented.

Why is Group Time Important?

There are many reasons why group play is key to the development and growth of young children. It develops teamwork skills, develops deeper friendships, helps them use critical thinking skills and build confidence!

Group activities provide children with opportunities to interact with their peers, fostering the development of social skills such as cooperation, communication, and teamwork. Through group games, children learn how to take turns, share, and collaborate effectively. These skills are essential for success in school and later in life.

Participating in group activities and games allows children to build confidence in themselves and their abilities. Successes achieved in a group setting can boost self-esteem, while challenges and failures provide opportunities for resilience and learning. Additionally, children learn to celebrate the achievements of others, fostering a positive and supportive environment. By being heard in a group setting, and by listening to others, children gain confidence.

Group Time at Aspire Cranbourne West

Aspire’s Cranbourne West centre implements group activities and games in many different ways.

Recently, the four-year-old kinder Woodland room children joined with educators to play a group game together. Full of excitement and eagerness, the children were ready to participate! The leaders had two teams (A & B), who had two buckets of colourful balls. When the music started, they had to pass the balls from front to back, and the last person in each team put them into another bucket. The first team to fill their bucket won the game! Even some of the other kinder kids watched with excitement.

The children had so much fun playing games both together and in competition with each other. The room leaders couldn’t remember the last time there was this much cheering and enthusiasm in the room.

Erandathie, the Head of Curriculum at Aspire Cranbourne West observed that when playing together, “Children further develop their cooperation and conversation skills and discover how to share and be fair.”

“Through small group play, they will learn that they will only sometimes get their way and sometimes must compromise. On the other hand, they build healthy relationships in the classroom, regulate emotions, and develop empathy towards each other.”

Group time at Aspire Cranbourne West is a key component of the kindergarten programs at the centre. Three and four-year-old children benefit greatly from the social, emotional and cognitive growth that occurs from group time.
