A Wonderful Morning at Aspire Wollert’s Community Morning Tea

On the 22nd of May, Aspire Wollert held A Community Morning Tea event for families and the wider community. It was a morning full of networking, creating community bonds, as well as eating yummy food. The centre’s chef team did an amazing job at creating an incredible spread that was enjoyed by all!
The community rallied around Aspire Early Education & Kindergarten Wollert by coming along to support their event. The principal and teachers from nearby Harvest Home Primary School were in attendance. The connection the centre has with local primary schools is important for when Kinder children transition into school. There were representatives from a range of local businesses, from the neighbourhood dentist to the owner of the local Ferguson Plarre. The businesses have the full support from the centre, who are glad they took the time out of their busy schedules to visit the centre.
A local Indigenous Elder came along to the event, and shared with guests and children about her culture. She also visits the centre, and other local primary schools, on a regular basis to read stories, do crafts and share knowledge of the history of the land the centre is on.
Bronwyn Halfpenny MP, state member for Thomastown also participated in the Morning Tea event. She spent time chatting with the staff and local business owners, as well as talked to the children. It was wonderful to have representatives from the government come along to the Aspire Wollert Community Morning Tea.
A highlight of the morning was a story time reading by the local MP and Indigenous Elder. MP Halfpenny read to the kinder children Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. This book was the one selected to be read as part of National Simultaneous Storytime, held on the same day. Participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime in this way made it extra special.
The younger toddlers heard from local Indigenous Elder Sharon read Boomer the Roo by Josephine Barrymore, as the sun shone outside. The weather really turned out beautifully for this morning’s reading. This story of this cheeky kangaroo and their friends truly immersed the children as they sat and listened.
Overall, it was an extremely pleasant time at the Aspire Wollert Community Morning Tea event!
