Earlier in November, the kindergarten children at Aspire Cranbourne West took their final excursions of the year to Gumbuya World. During the excursion, the children met and learnt about a variety of animals. From farm animals to Australian native wildlife, there was plenty to learn. This excursion was highly anticipated by the children and was a wonderful way to finish off a year of fun.
Our recent excursion to Gumbuya World was an incredible opportunity for children to connect with nature and learn about the fascinating world of animals. They explored various animal habitats, discovering how animals adapt to their environments, catch their food, and protect themselves.
The children had multiple different experiences with the animals. First, the children went to the koala environment. The keepers discussed the places koalas like to live, what they eat and why koalas sleep so much. It has to do with the eucalyptus that they eat taking a long time to digest, making koalas sleepy!
After the children had fun with the koalas, they entered the aviary, where birds of every colour flew by. The children observed the kinds of birds they could see, and named the colours of each one. Then the groups went to the petting zoo, which was what the children were most excited about. In this experience, the children got to feed and pat several cute and friendly animals.
The animal keepers discussed how to care for animals, what gentle touching is, what types of food they may eat and what to do if they notice injured animals. It was a very educational lesson, and the children were excited to learn about how they can look after the members of the animal kingdom.
Lastly, they got up close and personal with some reptiles and amphibians. The kinder kids learnt about their eating habits, why they have scales and how they lay eggs. The important lesson of which reptiles are safe to approach was also given to the children.
This hands-on experience fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world while encouraging curiosity about the diversity of living things. By observing and interacting with the animals, children also learned the importance of showing care and respect for all creatures. This enriching experience has left them inspired to value and protect the environment around them.
Overall, the day supported children understanding of environmental responsibility, how we care and support for animals and how we ensure our own personal safety when it comes to safe and dangerous reptiles.
