Aiding in Child Development

Gross motor skills are mainly developed during childhood. Supporting the development of gross motor skills in a childcare setting is vital as most of the development is due before children reach school age. Young babies have little control over their bodies and require help to move safely and comfortably. Activities such as tummy time encourage babies to learn how to move their bodies. This then builds strength for them to pull themselves up onto other items. We encourage plenty of floor-based activity time for the babies at Thornhill Park.

Recently the nursery room engaged in sensory play. Sand and water-filled bottles made for a very fun experience whilst playing on the floor! The kids also played with paint-filled Ziploc bags which were a bit hit. These activities help our babies improve their sensory awareness, fine motor skills, language development, cognitive growth, and problem-solving abilities. They were designed to be enjoyable and engaging.

Educational Nursery Excursions

Taking the nursery children on educational excursions is an important part of their growth. Excursions are beneficial to babies’ sensory development, environmental awareness, social interaction, as well as many other things.

The Nursery room had a beautiful day taking the little ones for a stroll with the dedicated educators to our local park. Along the way, they admired vibrant flowers and spotted ducks gliding gracefully on the lake. The sunshine added a warm glow to the day, making it perfect for a small picnic at the park. The children enjoyed their snacks, from juicy apples to ripe bananas, all while basking in the lovely winter weather. We created wonderful memories filled with exploration, nature, and joyful company
