At Aspire Cranbourne North, we feel like one big family

Last week at Aspire Cranbourne North, we had a great time celebrating National Families Week, a special week all about recognising how important families are in children’s lives and our community.

At Aspire Cranbourne North, we know how much family matters. When families get involved in their child’s learning, it makes a huge difference in how kids grow and feel part of the world around them. We believe that when families are actively involved in their child’s learning journey, it nurtures a stronger foundation for emotional, social, and cognitive development. Our aim was to recognise and celebrate the love, diversity, and support that families contribute to our centre every single day. So, National Families Week gave us the perfect excuse to celebrate all the amazing families we work with every day.

What's National Families Week

It’s a yearly celebration across Australia that shines a spotlight on families - it's a time to celebrate with your family, connect with your extended family and friends. It’s all about bringing communities closer and showing how important family connections are for everyone’s wellbeing. Families Week also reflects on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children as they grow. What We Did

We planned some fun activities that brought families right into the heart of the centre:

Family Foyer Display

Families shared photos and artworks, which we put up in the foyer to show off the wonderful mix of people in our community. What made it extra special was seeing how many of the creations were made by the families - parents and children sitting down, chatting, drawing, creating something meaningful side by side. It was a lovely reminder of how small moments like these can have a big impact, and how strong the connection is between home and our centre.

Stay and Play Sessions

Parents. grandparents and carers came along to join in with storytelling, arts and crafts, and lots of fun. These sessions were also a wonderful chance to give families a glimpse into the learning experiences we offer throughout the week, and to show how we support each child’s development in a fun and engaging way.

Music and Movement

One of the real highlights of the week was a joyful music and dance session led by one of our wonderful parents from a Cambodian background. The vibrant music and dancing filled the room quickly with energy, laughter, and smiling faces. The children absolutely loved moving to the beat, trying out new steps, and connecting with the music in their own playful ways. What made it even more special was the sense of sharing — a parent bringing part of their culture into the centre and offering it so generously to the whole group. It created a beautiful moment of joy, connection, and cultural pride that we’ll all remember for a long time.

Cultural Storytelling

Throughout the week, we invited families and community members to share traditional stories and songs from their cultural background. These storytelling sessions were a quiet but powerful way to broaden the children’s understanding of the world around them. They listened with curiosity, asked thoughtful questions and responded with genuine interest and respect.

Why This weeks matters

It was really heartwarming to see families come together, chat and share stories at our centre. The kids loved talking about their families and showing off their photos, which sparked some lovely conversations. Parents told us how great it was to feel so welcome and connected with the centre and with each other. Moments like these are so important; they help children understand that every family is unique, and that there’s so much we can learn from one another. By listening to different stories and learning about other cultures, we’re not only celebrating our differences, but also building a sense of belonging for everyone. It’s all part of creating an inclusive space where every child and every family feels seen, valued and proud of who they are.

National Families Week was a wonderful reminder of how important family really is, and how much richer our community is when we celebrate and support each other. At Aspire, we truly feel like one big family, and that sense of connection and care means the world to us.
