Fun, Movement and New Skills - Aspire Riverwalk's Sports Incursion

Sport programs are a great way for children to have fun, be active and learn together! At Aspire Early Education and Kindergarten Riverwalk, they have a fortnightly sports incursion program run by Sports Tots. Learn more about this program and the benefits of participating in sports at an early education centre.
Sports Tots is a fun, active, and creative program for children aged 2 to 6 years old. They specialise in early childhood development through fun, interactive sports and performing arts programs, creating a healthier and more creative future for young children.
Aspire Riverwalk is fortunate to have the team from Sports Tots provide fortnightly sport sessions at the centre for the toddler and kinder children. Each session is different and focuses on a different sport where the children learn new skills in a hands-on way.
Last fortnight the children learnt the basics of tennis! They warmed up, grabbed some rackets and tennis balls, and participated in different activities to learn the basics of the game. It was such a fun and active session, and there were even some tennis superstars in the making!
In the previous session, they had a ball learning the basics of basketball! Using basketballs, they practiced their dribbling skills, passing and shooting hoops! It was such a fun and engaging session for the children, that enhanced their teamwork skills, concentration skills and hand-eye coordination.
These sport sessions provide such an engaging experience for the children and offer numerous benefits to their growth and development, outside of just having fun!
Sport programs play a vital role in supporting a child's growth and development. Physically, these programs help children develop essential motor skills such as balance, coordination, and agility. Through activities like running, jumping, and throwing, children not only build stronger muscles and bones but also establish healthy habits that can lead to physical well-being into adulthood.
Engaging in sport activities also has significant cognitive benefits. Research shows that physical activity stimulates brain development and enhances functions such as memory, concentration, and problem-solving. Children who participate in regular sports often perform better academically, as movement increases blood flow to the brain and improves attention and behavior in the classroom. Learning the rules of a game and following structured activities also supports cognitive growth by encouraging children to think strategically and make quick decisions.
The social development that arises from sport participation is equally important. Through team games and activities, children learn important social skills such as communication, collaboration, and empathy. They practice sharing, taking turns, and respecting others, which are foundational behaviours for building healthy relationships. Physical activity is also a natural stress reliever and mood booster, helping children manage anxiety and develop positive coping strategies.
Sports programs offer so many benefits for children and their development, which is why they are implemented through our Aspire programs.
