Connect, Learn, Grow at Aspire Tarniet North’s Nursery Hub

Posted February 8th 2025

Aspire’s Baby Steps Nursery Program provides a nurturing and supportive environment for children aged 6 weeks to 2 years. Our play-based learning approach allows children to learn through sensory play while stimulating their senses of touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight.

The nursery children at Aspire Early Education Tarneit North have many opportunities to connect, learn, and grow and explore the world around them. Learn more some of these play-based activities below.

Engaging in Sensory Activities

Sensory play plays a vital role in supporting babies' development and growth. Their senses serve as a powerful way for them to explore and learn. Through sight, hearing, smell, taste, movement, and touch there are countless opportunities for discovery and growth.

Recently the Tarneit North nursery children have been playing with sensory bottles. These bottles are filled with different materials such as uncooked pasta and rice.

This activity allows them to engage in their senses – sight, touch and sound. As they explore and hold the bottles, they can observe colours, textures, and movement, which helps enhance their sensory processing. It also encourages the development of fine motor skills as babies grasp, hold, or manipulate the objects.

Understanding the World through Pretend Play

Pretend play is a crucial part of a baby’s early development, helping them build imagination, social skills, and an understanding of the world around them. Even though babies are still in the early stages of cognitive development, there are many ways they can begin to explore pretend play through simple activities.

In Tarneit North’s nursery room, they currently have a home corner set up which features a pretend kitchen. The nursery children love pretend cooking and serving meals with soft fruit and vegetable toys, and plastic utensils. Kitchen play is a great way for young children to learn about daily routines and practice fine motor skills.

Playing with Musical Instructions

Introducing babies to musical instruments can be a great way to engage their senses and nurture a love of music. Babies are naturally curious, and exploring musical instruments can help them develop motor skills, coordination, and an understanding of cause and effect.

The nursery children love playing with xylophones, mini drums, rattles, maracas and keyboards! This offers a fun experience for the babies, while having a positive impact on their emotional, social and physical development.

Forming Friendships

For nursery-aged children, forming friendships is also an important part of their social and emotional development. At this stage, children are learning how to interact with others, share, take turns, and communicate.

At Aspire Tarneit North, they encourage the babies to form friendships through shared play together. This involves sharing toys, building structures and participating in activities together. Cooperative play helps them to bond and connect as they share the same space and learn to play together.

These two babies in the photos are already besties at Tarneit North, highlighting the joy of forming friendships from a young age!

Aspire Tarneit North’s nursery program is diverse and fosters growth and development in various ways. Engaging in sensory activities, pretend play and musical instruments are just some of the experiences that create a well-rounded curriculum at Tarneit North.
